50 Weekly Email Story-Based Ideas

Each of these 50 email ideas are story-based. There are emails designed to build your know, like and trust as well as social proof emails, teaching emails and promotional emails.

1. Subject: And things were never the same again
The Aha moment email: Expand upon the “You know when the world seems to crack open…..” story for your newsletter:
Ideas: You could talk about 3 specific results that you have been able to achieve since your AHA moment and relate it back to your offer.

2. Subject: Open if you dare
The “Somethings Coming” email: Expand upon the “Right now I’m working on story”… and tease something new that is coming soon eg. a new product, a new free training, a new event.
Idea: You might want to gauge interest for your new product or service so you might ask for a response or feedback or you could ask people to hop on a waitlist as a ‘Call To Action’

3. Subject: Do you love shortcuts?
Expand on the story around your belief on shortcuts, this could be how you don’t believe in shortcuts to great skin, losing weight, renovating your home, building your business and talk about a few things you do instead to build authority with your readers
Idea: You could tell a story about a shortcut gone wrong

4. Subject: A gift for you
Based on the story about something free you have created, let your email subscribers know how they can get their hands on it
Idea: Use a metaphor about giving, talk about how the act of giving makes you feel, you can relate it back to a story about a free email gift that made a huge difference to you

5. Subject: She/He did it!
Based on your story around a client’s or customers success, turn this into an email that highlights the great results your client achieved and celebrate them. It could be the results they got with your product or service.
Idea: Use the Brand Story template to tell your customers story and journey. If you can include visuals or a video, bonus points!

6. Subject:
and the story of
Expand on the interesting bits and pieces about your story to help your new and existing subscribers get to know you a little better.
Idea: You can split this into a series of emails “Part 1, 2 and 3” each using a section of the brand story template to show empathy and connect with your customer.

7. Subject:
Would you like a Golden Ticket?
Use the story around having a backstage pass or golden ticket to get a peek at something you offer and let your subscribers know about it
Idea: Tell a story about missing out! Create urgency and have this sneak peek available for just a short time

8. Subject:
It’s a mic drop moment
Share some recent coverage either media, podcast or video that you have appeared on for someone else. If you don’t have anything then you can share the love by highlighting and interview from someone else podcast you have loved and would like to share with your subscribers
Idea: Relate your podcast, interview back to your why story or a teaching story.

9. Subject:
There’s no turning back
The point of no return: Use your brand story to talk about the point where you knew there was no turning back.
Ideas: This could be on your journey to owning your own business, becoming a certified nutritionist etc. The aim is for your subscribers to relate to this point where things changed and see themselves in the story

10. Subject:
Drop it like it’s hot
No more stressing: Expanding on the: I used to stress about story and then introduce your solution in the email.
Idea: Show the before and after of your solution. Ex. I used to worry about what to cook each night – then I discovered the Keto 180 Plan. Paint a visual picture of the before pain and the after joy

11. Subject:
I’m smiling from ear to ear
Use the story about a client or customer testimonial, someone who has written to you or spoken to you about how your product or service has really helped them
Idea: Highlight your customer or clients accomplishments – not your own 🙂

12. Subject:
Nothing to lose, everything to gain
Expand on the story around all the things people can gain from your product or service, focus on the tangible and emotional benefits, painting a picture in their mind through the story of how things could be for them.
Idea: Tell a story of what ‘could be’ and relate it to a client, customer or your own journey

13. Subject:
Listen to the whisper
Using the story about a dream your customer or client has always had, encourage them to go after that dream
Idea: Talk about something you always dreamed of and the points in your life where the dream got louder. Encourage your subscriber to go after their dream

14. Subject:
It’s me and
Shooting the breeze with : Use a video, Facebook Live, podcast or even just an audio chat between you and your business bestie about a trend your seeing in your industry and what you both think about it
Idea: Me and my biz bestie Belle ran a Livestream on ‘how marketing is like Tinder” You could talk about a new trend, a new idea or just share your thoughts on something topical for your industry.

15. Subject:
The picture that paints a thousand words:
Expand on the story about a photo that means so much to you.
Idea: It could be the turning point on your weight loss journey, or maybe the moment you got your certification, the day you landed your first client or your first family holiday and link it back to why you do what you do.

16. Subject: Don’t give up!
Expand on the story about trying ALL the things but not getting the result.
Idea: Share a story about when you nearly gave up on something but kept going or when a client or customer nearly gave up but kept going

17. Subject:
It’s Marty calling from the future
Using the story about your customer or client picturing themselves in the future when they have the result or thing it is that they want, the thing that your product or service delivers and then invite them to buy
Idea: Write a letter to your customers future self, focus on the tangible and emotional benefits, painting a picture in their mind through the story of how things could be for them.

18. Subject:
I can’t help myself
Expand on the story about being either an over-deliverer or a perfectionist or something that shows vulnerability but also value.
Idea: Share something in the email that helps them, it could be a free resource, a discount or an offer of something

19. Subject:
I dropped the ball
The day it all went wrong!: Using the story about a day or experience when things went wrong and how you bounced back from it
Idea: It could be the day you missed your kid’s concert and realized you had to leave your job or the time you missed going on a date because you didn’t feel confident with your weight. Talk about how things have changed and demonstrate how they can change for your subscriber too

20. Subject:
It really does take a village
Expand on your story about the support you have got along the way on your journey and offer your support to your subscribers through a freebie, offer or product
Idea: Use metaphor or story such as “the wolf and their pack” and demonstrate how things are better when you have support. Offer a simple step to get support from you.

21. Subject: Epic Fail Alert!
Using the story about over-delivering as an opportunity to re-introduce something new and exciting.
Idea: Everyone loves a good backstory, you could talk about the times you really wanted to please your clients or customers and how you ended up getting it wrong!

22. Subject:
99 problems but this shouldn’t be one of them:
Use the story about a problem you see people struggling with when they don’t need to and offer up a solution.
Idea: This could be a call to arms to join you in a program / offer /buy something or something simple like a few tips

23. Subject:
I just can’t do it:
Expand on what might be holding your customer or client back from investing in your product or service, show empathy by talking about a time you felt the same
Idea: You could talk about a situation that you didn’t invest in and what it cost you in other areas or how it ended up costing you more in the long run

24. Subject:
Hot or not?
Using the story about reading the Sunday Times list of Hot or Not and share some great insights into your industry and trends
Idea: Include something fun and something polarizing!

25. Subject:
Heartbreak and promises
Expand on the story about what you can’t guarantee but what you can promise and include why it matters to you to do that
Idea: This is a way to demonstrate your values and brand promise. Explain why you don’t believe in telling people “they can lose 5kg in a week / earn $100K in a month.”

26. Subject:
Rocky terrain ahead
Use the story about the curves in the road in your journey, maybe a diversion and how things turned out
Idea: Start the storytelling people how you thought it would be. Eg. I thought I’d learn how to build my massage practice in just a few weeks or I thought it would be easy to build our own home.

Introducing… Expand on your customer testimonial and introduce their success story
Idea: Do a live Q&A with a customer or client

28. Subject:
The ultimate stop doing list:
Use the story about what you used to do eg. hustle or procrastinate and how you changed it around,
Idea: Use your story as a way to introduce your subscribers to a way that they can stop doing something by grabbing your product or offer

29. Subject:
Zero to
Starting from scratch. Introduce the story around what you’d do if you had your time over..
Idea: This could be: “I wouldn’t you diet / I would have worked on my resume before quitting my job / I would have hired a builder instead of DIY

30. Subject:
Drumroll, confetti and a cocktail
Use the story about how you’ve never shared this before and show your subscribers how they can get in on the action
Idea: Use suspense by talking up how this new thing/product/offer came to be

31. Subject:
I can’t see you from up here:
Expand on the advice gurus in your industry give out that you straight up don’t agree with and offer an alternative point of view
Idea: This is your soapbox moment. Start with “I need to get something off my chest or Let’s address the elephant in the room”

32. Subject:
The world is flat
Use the story you talked about a new way of seeing something and expand on this with a few dot points of exactly how your client or customer can use this to change the way they do things
Idea: This is the time to show your customer that it’s OK if they have been doing things one way and how it’s time for another

33. Subject:
This one is just for you
Expand or simply use the short story that talks about the woman that’s going after whatever goal it is.
Idea: This is simply a post that shows you are there and support your customers and clients (P.S These are my favourite love bombs to send!)

34. Subject:
It’s a wrap
End of year wrap up. Tell a story about the best of the year, all the things, people, achievements you are grateful for and talk about what you are really looking forward to in the year ahead
Idea: Start with how you thought 2020 would turn out and the twist, turns and learnings along the way (I don’t think anyone will have a dull email for this year’s wrap up!)

35. Subject:
How the hell did they do that?
Use the story about how we often only see the glossy and curated elements of people’s lives and what really goes on behind the great body/skin/home/life/business
Idea: Tell a story of someone you really looked up to only for you to find that things weren’t as you saw on the outside (It could be the boss who seemed to always have it together, the Mom blogger who always had a beautifully clean home, the entrepreneur with the successful book)

36. Subject:
It’s finally ready:
Expand on the pop the champagne post and tell people all about your new thing
Idea: Use a story about waiting for something to introduce your offer “Eg. A kid waiting for Christmas morning, a Mum waiting for the kids to go to bed!”

37. Subject:
It’s Official:
Either more details on what you announced last week or something new

38. Subject:
I was shaking all over
The nerves nearly got me. Use the story about how the first time you invested in or bought something to help you,
Idea: Talk about how it made you feel and show empathy with your audience, then paint the picture of how great it was when you achieved it

39. Subject:
Better than
Expand on the story about how you love checklists or it could be something else you love that you then go on to share with your audience. Eg. A favourite meditation / EFT technique / Exercise
Idea: Start with talking about something you love Eg. You know what I love more than “Binge-watching Stranger Things / The first day of the sales / The release of a new Ben and Jerry’s flavour…..

40. Subject:
Would you like my help?
Use the story about your talents or skills and offer your help.
Idea: If you have a product you can still use this story to tell people how you are great at selecting things or you know the perfect combinations for people

41. Subject:
I’m late for a very important date
Use the story about your offer or product going away soon, or the discount, special or opening is going away soon, encourage people to get on board now before it’s too late
Idea: A story of missing out…buying the last pair of jeans in your size / the holiday you almost booked / the tickets to your favourite concert and relate it to missing out on your product

42. Subject:
How’s your bum on that fence?
This can be a follow on story to the week before, which lets people know there is still some time to buy your offer or product.
Idea: Paint a picture of what indecision is causing your subscriber

43. Subject:
It’s a no from me:
Expand on the story about someone who came to you for help or came to buy your product and they weren’t the right fit.
Idea: Use this to reinforce who is the right fit. Don’t be scared to lose people, you want to have subscribers who are going to be great customers

44. Subject:
I’m swallowing that frog
Use the story about something you’ve been holding back on and declare it to your subscribers.
Idea: It doesn’t have to be big, the aim is to create connection.

45. Subject:
I couldn’t keep this all to myself
Use the story about something great or new you have discovered and then introduce that thing,
Idea: Showcase another business and tell the story of how you found them. It could be a product, service, podcast, book

46. Subject:
Is it time to let go?
Tell a story of a belief you no longer have, why you let it go and what it means to you now.
Idea: This doesn’t have to be deeply personal it could be something lighthearted eg. if you are a home renovation expert you could talk about how you used to think Laminate was awful and now you’ve changed that belief

47. Subject:
Would you like the truth?
Expand on the story about how people want to know what it takes to get the result they want and tell them the truth and then offer a solution
Idea: Be raw and real. Tell people what it really means and how you can help make it easier

48. Subject:
Gratitude is the attitude
A short and sweet post, thanking your subscribers for being with you and part of your community

49. Subject:
One time only
You could make this a couple of emails or just a one-time 24-hour offer.
Idea: Tell a story of something that you thought was too good to be true and then introduce your offer.

50. Subject:
Behind the
Let’s get to know each other: A story to intro yourself again and show some insider info
into who you are and what you do
