5 Welcome Sequence Email Templates – My Spiritual Biz

5 Welcome Sequence Email Templates

Below are 5 potential emails that could be modified with your own story and business interests to schedule as an initial “Get to Know Me” Welcome email sequence for new email list subscribers.

Welcome Email #1: The Welcome Email

Intro: What goes into a good welcome email? Do you just write about anything random and call it a day?

Clearly, your welcome email is extremely important for your business because it is the first email that all your subscribers will receive. It is the most important email you have to send because it determines if a new subscriber would even bother opening your future emails.

Over the years, I have gone through many different iterations of my welcome email and I’ve landed on a sweet spot that works for me.

What should a good welcome email achieve for you?

  • A great welcome email will adequately introduce who you are and what you do.
  • It should engage new subscribers and get them used to interacting with you.
  • It should get them to see you as an expert.
  • It should enable you to give massive value to your new subscribers.
  • It should prime your new subscribers to want to read any future emails from you.

Subject Line: Welcome! (+ Goodies)

Email Copy:

Welcome Email #2: The Origin Story Email

Intro: Telling your origin story is one of the best ways for people to feel connected to you!

Your origin story is simply the story of how you started out… to become who you are today.

For instance, if you’re in the weight loss niche, it would be how your health & weight was like before… and how it’s like now. If you’re a photographer, you may be talking about how you started as a casual iPhone user to becoming a full-time photographer… and so on.

Just like how each movie spends the first 10 minutes narrating a backstory for each character so that you will start rooting for the lead actor… Your subscribers will be able to relate to “before” version of yourself that you present in this email, so this email bonds them to you and your story!

*The example given in this email template is 100% hypothetical.

Subject Line: My Story…

Email Copy:

Hey [first name],

Welcome to my newsletter! I am [Your Name], and I can’t wait to help you to [end result].

Things may seem smooth and easy for me now, but they weren’t always this way.

[Describe your situation before… What was the EXTERNAL struggle you were dealing with?]

(E.g. Despite spending over 5 years trying to get my online business up, over $40,000 in courses, and 5 coaches, but I was still invisible online. Nobody was visiting my website. Nobody was buying my stuff.

[Describe your situation before… What was the INTERNAL struggle you were dealing with… the one your audience is thinking inside but would never admit to anyone?]

(E.g. The truth was… it wasn’t just my finances and list size that were dismal, my self-confidence had taken a huge hit too. I have always been someone that would set goals and achieve them… and when I saw that online businesses could give me the freedom that I yearned for, I wanted that. However, no matter how I tried, I just could not “crack the online code”. I stopped believing in myself.)

[Describe the huge wall you faced that caused you to change direction]

(E.g. After a while, I realized that I was doing ALL these things, but nobody was paying any attention to me no matter what I tried.)

[The new opportunity you discovered]

(E.g. That was until something life-changing happened… I read an article about list building and realized that I had to grow an email list to get sales …)

[The plan you crafted to achieve your desire]

(E.g. I decided that I would do exactly that… every morning, I would dedicate an hour solely to grow my email list. I implemented 5 key strategies…)

[Problems with the new regime]

(E.g. I thought all would be solved once I started working on my email list… but I…)

[End result – describe both external and internal transformations]

(E.g. I stuck to my guns though, each time I failed I picked myself back up again and again.

It got easier. Slowly but surely, I grew my list to my first 1,000 subscribers, and had my first successful launch. I will never forget how I managed to make $50,000 in a week, just from emailing my list! As time passed, my self-confidence grew as well…

Alright, that’s all for today!

Keep your eyes peeled for tomorrow’s email, where I talk about [tease them about next email to get them excited to open the next email you send]. See you!

Welcome Email #3: The Huge Wall Email

Intro: As the “expert” in the topic, we tend to start sounding all “high” and “arrogant” and start losing the authenticity that once attracted customers to us.

There’s even a term for this – the “Guru on the Mountains” syndrome. The solution? Talk about your failures, be vulnerable.

It makes you sound human, and guess what? People open emails from humans.

Nobody is interested in getting emails with tip after tip… they want to connect with someone and a great way to do this is to talk about your failure(s).

The failure we’re focusing on in The Huge Wall Email is the obstacle you faced that finally pushed you to take (whatever your thing is) seriously.

For instance, maybe you teach people about personal development and the “wall” you met that prompted you to get serious about your personal development was the death of a loved one, or perhaps serious depression.

If you are an expert in the weight loss niche, perhaps you can talk about that one incident/incidents that caused you to start taking your weight loss seriously.

This is a “wall” that your subscribers can likely relate to, even if they may not have gone through it themselves.

*The example given in this email template is 100% hypothetical because the weight loss niche is one of the biggest niches online today. I don’t condone fat shaming. Given that I’m Asian & female (and spent over 6 months traveling in the States where I was a minority and experienced 5 incidents of racism during that 6-month period), I understand how it feels to be marginalized because of how you look, not who you are. If you behave like the guy in the example, that’s not cool. I am not a weight loss expert – the example is used purely to illustrate how a story can be crafted to really tug at the heartstrings of your ideal avatar.

Subject Line: I Almost Gave Up…

Email Copy:

Hey [First name],

Yesterday, I shared a little about… [Elaborate a little about what you talked about yesterday]

[Describe the huge wall you faced in your journey to achieve the transformation. Tell the story in an emotional manner… Or describe a big failure you had to face]

(E.g. I was walking along the street, feeling really guilty that I just had an extra dessert while I was out with my friend that morning.

It was a horrible feeling because I had just vouched that I wouldn’t eat any more desserts for the month, and I broke the promise to myself within the next day!)

[Externally, what happened?]

(E.g. I was just walking on the streets, minding my own business…

That was when a big tall guy whom I found rather attractive started making eye contact with me.

I thought he was interested in me…

But then, he opened his mouth, and shouted, “Gosh, you are so fat!”

His friends then laughed. They were making fun of me.)

[Internally, what happened?]

(E.g. Something in me just broke.

The cumulation of all the shame, teasing, and being looked over that I’ve endured all my life started to explode within me.

I didn’t just turn red like I usually do, but my self-worth crumpled in that instance…)

[The epiphany – describe the epiphany you realized that caused you to change]

(Eg. That was when I realized that I didn’t have to put up with this.

I could change my life. It was my life.)

[What happened after you hit the wall? Describe FEELINGS]

My life changed that day – not the numbers on the weighing scale, but the resolve in me to do something about my weight.)

[Conclusion]

(E.g. I went on a massive search, completing all the weight loss regimes I could possibly find both online and offline.

I hired a personal coach.

I took supplements.

Nothing worked, though…)

Until I discovered a new regime… which you’ve heard a little about previously.

I will share more about this tomorrow – I can’t wait to share this with you because it has literally changed my life… both physically and emotionally. [get them to look forward to your next email!]

Cheers,

Welcome Email #4: The Big AHA Moment

Intro: Priming your subscribers for the sale doesn’t start only when you want to launch something to sell. It starts as soon as someone joins your community.

At some point, something changed in your life that got you SOLD on the idea of whatever you are selling.

For instance, you watched a teleseminar 5 years ago about this guy that made a ton of money online via list building. That day, you were sold on the idea that list building was important. Or maybe you were single for 10 years, but one day, you read a book about body language, employed the strategies and the date that weekend became a raving success. You realized that body language is extremely important if you want to score a date.

Something changed in your life that got you on the path that you are on now – being a firm believer in what you are teaching in your business.

Tell the story behind it, and your readers will start getting the epiphany you want them to get.

You can’t change behavior by TELLING people that your thing is important, you have to SHOW them.

For instance, most of you know that I sell Traffic Subscribers Yours, a course about list building. I could tell you that list building is important 10 million times and force you to accept this fact, OR, I could have told an exciting story of how *I* came to realize that list building was 100% important in my business…. and let you come to the realization yourself.

When that happens, your customers get an aha moment in their lives that will permanently change their thought patterns, AND they are impressed with you because you have given them a new revelation that they previously did not possess. At the same time, you are telling a personal story and this builds connection and trust.

Subject Line: It all changed when…

Email Copy:

Hey [first name],

My life changed dramatically [#] [weeks/months/years] ago.

I had been [the problem you had] all my life.

But [#] [weeks/months/years] ago, I managed to [end goal]!

… And it was all due to this game-changing [strategy, methodology, regime] that I tried!

[Describe how you were like before you found whatever you’re selling / before you discovered the concept of what you’re selling]

(E.g. Here’s what happened. After I resolved get more subscribers, I went on a crazy search to find a list building system that actually worked.

I bought a ton of marketing courses…

I even tried …)

[Describe how you felt INTERNALLY before you found whatever you’re selling]

(E.g. My hopes were running low, I was losing hope that things would ever change for me.

The negative self-talk started coming in. I thought to myself, “Maybe I am destined to be invisible online. Maybe I don’t deserve having a successful online business”)

[The moment you had an epiphany]

(E.g. That night, I had a catch-up dinner with an old college friend of mine. To my amazement, she now had a successful online business!

She told me that…. I realized that….)

[How you behaved and felt after the epiphany you had]

(E.g. I went back home with renewed hope. The moment I reached back home, I opened my computer to do some research about ____.

I’d never felt so excited about anything in my life before that night!)

[Conclusion]

(E.g. …. That kickstarted an amazing transformational journey in my life…)
